26 декабря 2011 г. ушел из жизни замечательный математик, один из крупнейших специалистов по теории динамических систем и теории бифуркаций, лауреат премий имени А.М.Ляпунова Российской Академии наук и имени М.А.Лаврентьева Национальной Академии наук Украины,  гумбольдтовский профессор, профессор кафедры численного и функционального анализа,  зав. отделом дифференциальных уравнений  НИИ прикладной математики и кибернетики Нижегородского университета Леонид Павлович Шильников.

Л.П. Шильников был одним из создателей математической теории динамического хаоса и теории глобальных бифуркаций многомерных динамических систем. Его труды широко известны во всем мире, а полученные им результаты признаны классическими. Им создана научная школа, его ученики работают во многих ведущих российских и зарубежных университетах.

Leonid Shilnikov was one of the founders of the mathematical theory of dynamical chaos and the theory of global bifurcations of high-dimensional systems. His works are widely known throughout the world, and his results recognized as classical are included in all modern textbooks of dynamical systems. He had created a profound research school.

For each and every of us, Leonid Pavlovich will always remain Teacher, extraordinary Expert and mythic Prophet in mathematics and nonlinear dynamics. He had his own, Shilnikov “nonaxiomatic” style: the conditions of his theorems were meant to be verified with ease. Perhaps, because of that Leonid had become a global attractor for many colleagues and research fellows from various fields of science, besides mathematics: physics, biology, neurophysiology, chemistry and engineering, and he had stayed that way always. Many scientists acknowledge that Shilnikov’s ideas and charisma had greatly influenced their own development, both professional and personal.

Еще в университете Леонид Павлович познакомился со своей будущей женой Людмилой Ивановной, и прожив с ней 55 лет, он был неизменно ее верным спутником и другом, а для своих детей и внуков всегда оставался внимательным и справедливым главой семьи, достойной предельного уважения и несомненного подражания.
Back at his university years Leonid Pavlovich met his future wife Lyudmila Ivanovna, and during lonf 55 together, he was always her faithful companion and friend, and to their children and grandchildren he was the considerate and fair family head of an utmost respect and an unquestioned role model.
